ThrillerFest is pleased to announce an outstanding promotional opportunity for ITW authors attending ThrillerFest. If you attended ThrillerFest 2008, you'll remember the eye-grabbing poster-sized advertisements placed on easels near the elevators. Publishers used these easels to feature their authors' book covers. If you didn't attend, take my word for it--the response to these beautiful posters was phenomenal.

Now you can have your own easel and poster, on display for all four days of CraftFest and ThrillerFest! All you, all the time.

The easels will be prominently placed in the hallway where all classes and panels are held, maximizing the exposure. You will supply at your cost a 2' x 3' color poster attached to a rigid backing such as foam core board, and you'll also be responsible for putting up and taking down your poster. You may be able to have your publisher make the poster for you--it's worth asking about. You must be an active ITW member attending ThrillerFest to take advantage of this. We expect these to go FAST! For pricing and to reserve yours now (one per person), email <a style="COLOR: rgb(255,102,0); FONT-WEIGHT: normal; TEXT-DECORATION: underline" href="javascript:window.top.openSendEmail('infocentral@thrillerwriters.org','ThrillerFest%20posters','','');" ?>infocentral@thrillerwriters.org. Children with illiterate parents are more likely to drop out of high school and receive lower grades than children with literate parents. Adults with low literacy skills cost American businesses more than $60 billion each year in lost productivity. These same low literacy adults also cost taxpayers over $100 billion annually due to frequent emergency room visits, longer hospital stays and extended critical care, among other health issues.

The direct link between low literacy skills and poverty is clear -- adults who cannot read are more likely to remain in poverty and resort to unemployment benefits, food stamps and other taxpayer-supported assistance programs. Also clear is the fact that while food can keep one alive, it cannot, by itself, lift one from poverty. However, increased literacy skills can; thus the Feeding Body & Mind program.

Feeding Body & Mind was created by best-selling author David Baldacci in partnership with Feeding America®, our nation's food banks and is managed by the Wish You Well Foundation®, the family foundation of David Baldacci and his wife Michelle.

Feeding Body & Mind provides an easy, practical and significant way to make an impact on our nation's poorest individuals. Through the program new and gently used books are collected and distributed alongside emergency food assistance through Feeding America's nationwide network of food banks. By providing books alongside food, Feeding Body & Mind recognizes the direct and substantial link between literacy and poverty and is working to end the cycle of physical and intellectual undernourishment.

"Story Structure: Organizing Your Story for Maximum Impact."

Description: William Goldman has said that, "Writing is structure." Understanding story structure is one of the most important writing skills but one of the least frequently taught. Bernhardt demonstrates how to organize the elements of your plot to create breathless pace, meaningful character arcs, and a thoroughly satisfying reading experience.

Bio: William Bernhardt loves his job and it shows in his writing. Library Journal has called him the "master of the courtroom drama." His twenty-seven books have sold more than ten million copies worldwide. The Vancouver Sun dubbed him "the American equivalent of P.G. Wodehouse and John Mortimer." His most recent novel is Capitol Conspiracy, which takes attorney Ben Kincaid to Washington, D.C., for a high-profile case involving controversial anti-terrorist legislation, political skullduggery, and murder. His forthcoming novel, Nemesis: The Final Case of Eliot Ness, solves the mystery of America's first serial killer, whose identity has eluded investigators for decades. Bernhardt's novels are renowned for their unexpected twists, breathless pace, humor, and insightful consideration of issues confronting contemporary American society. He is also the author of The Code of Buddyhood, a coming-of-age novel described by The West Coast Review of Books as "a powerful and sophisticated novel about the nature of friendship," a biography for young adults, Equal Justice: The Courage of Ada Sipuel, a children's book, Princess Alice and the Dreadful Dragon, and he has edited an anthology of original short stories (Legal Briefs) and a multi-author fundraising novel for The Nature Conservancy (Natural Suspect). And as if that weren't enough, he is also an often-published poet and a member of the Academy of American Poets. www.williambernhardt.com

Description: Story is not everything, it's absolutely everything. There is a right way and a wrong way. Structure is the key and we'll focus on the six C's to ensure the right result.

Bio: Steve has been writing since 1990, and though his undergraduate degree was in political science and he's trained as a lawyer, it was Steve's interest in history that led to him writing international suspense thrillers. They were the kind of books he liked to read, so naturally they became the kind of book he liked to write. Steve doesn't adhere to the adage, 'Write what you know'; instead, he says, 'Write what you love.' He also credits the nuns who taught him in Catholic school with instilling the discipline needed both to craft a novel and to find a publisher. It took Steve 12 years--85 rejections over 5 different manuscripts--before Ballantine Books finally bought a manuscript.
