No matter what some guides tell you, there's no sure-fire formula for writing a successful thriller.  But there are things not to do.  Here are the six biggest writing blunders that most of us commit at some time or another -- and how to avoid them.
Joseph Finder is the internationally bestselling author of eight novels whom the Boston Globe has called a "master of the modern thriller." His most recent book, Power Play, debuted in the top ten on the New York Times bestseller list in September 2007. His previous book, Killer Instinct, was also a New York Times bestseller and was named the Best Novel of the Year by the International Thriller Writers association. His other bestsellers include Paranoia and Company Man. One of his earlier novels, High Crimes, became a hit movie starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd --and Joe himself played a cameo role in the film. 

Joe is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and also did graduate work at the Harvard Russian Research Center. A member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, Joe lives in Boston with his wife and teenage daughter--and a neurotic golden retriever, Mia, a dropout from seeing-eye-dog school.

ThrillerFest

ITW's annual celebration of the thriller world is the largest event of its kind, a meeting place for authors, readers, budding writers, and publishing industry professionals.
