Dirk Jordaan grew up in northern KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. He has not returned there since. Following his national service, which he doesn’t miss either, he studied journalism. Since then he has been a journalist for the Afrikaans daily paper Beeld in Johannesburg. If he had the time and money he would travel more extensively in Africa. His debut novel, "Die jakkalssomer" ("Jackal Summer") was published in 2007. It was shortlisted for the literary magazine Insig's fiction award for 2007 and was a finalist in the language and cultural organisation ATKV's annual Quill Awards for 2007 in the category Suspense Fiction. Jordaan and his partner, writer and freelance journalist Ronel Nel, live in Pretoria with two motorcycles, two cats, three dogs and four guitars.
