Bio:
Chanette Paul was born in Johannesburg. She grew up all over the country, attended nine different schools, studied at five universities and had lived in seven of the nine South African provinces.

Chanette has experimented with a number of genres but since 2007 she has found her true niche in writing suspense novels – albeit a quirky interpretation of the genre. She entered this new phase with her 30th book, Springgety (springtide), and followed it up in, Fortuin (fortune), Boheem (bohemian), Meetsnoer (yardstick) and concluded the series with Dryfhout (driftwood).
These novels are now known as the Gys Niemand-series.
Detective Gys Niemand features in all five novels as a secondary, but significant character.
Physically rather unfit but mentally determined to unravel the truth, this balding detective with his paunch and moustache solves murder cases his way. The youthful Faantjie Fortuin is Gys’s enthusiastic aide-de-camp.
Apart from brand new protagonists and antagonists in each book, Chanette also tells Gys’ personal story in the course of the five books, all set in the (fictitious) Niemandsdorp district.
Another theme that runs through, is the legend of the fishwoman (or mermaid) of Crux Cove
Boheem, the third book in the series, is currently being translated into English. The tentative title is Bohemian Pen.

Chanette lives in a cottage on the banks of Kleine River in Stanford, situated in the picturesque Overberg. She is an ignorant but eager gardener, a ferocious reader and a music lover. She adores river life and loves watching the whales the Hermanus-area is famous for.
