Rogue Threat by A.J. Tata
Writers are often told to write about what they know. So if you like your thrillers with a lean toward military intrigue and international suspense, then you'll want to check out Rogue Threat, by A.J. Tata.
Mr. Tata graduated from West Point in 1981 and has recently retired as Brigadier General in the U.S. Army after twenty-eight yeas of service. He is a graduate of the Army's Ranger School and a Master Parachutist, having commanded a paratrooper battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division and an air assault brigade in the 101st Airborne Division. He has since served as the deputy commanding general of the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan.
Did I also mention that he's an accomplished author? That's right. Not only are our heroes in uniform out there putting it on the line every day for our freedom and well being, they're writing our thrillers too. And we couldn't be happier about it.
Mr. Tata began his series with the novel Sudden Threat, which #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins describes as "Topical, frightening, possible, and riveting." It is here where readers were first introduced to the exploits of Matt and Zach Garrett, two brothers who find themselves caught in the cross-fire of two powerful groups who are embroiled in a conspiracy to exploit America's mission in the Middle East. With excellent reviews and a strong response from readers, it is clear that a new voice in action/adventure fiction has emerged.
For an encore, Mr. Tata has brought us Rogue Threat. Here, the ante is upped as Matt Garrett once again finds himself in harms way. A fleet of unmanned aerial drones has just disappeared, and the U.S. vice president has turned to Matt for help. Things only get worse from there when an enemy combatant commandeers Matt's jet and a former Iraqi general with a startling link to his brother Zack emerges from hiding. Matt soon learns that terrorists have kidnapped the world's leading expert on nanotechnology, a man who has the ability to configure the Predator drones to locate, track, swarm, and destroy any target at will, the target being the heartland of America who's citizens now face devastation at the hands of these new weapons of mass destruction. Plenty of action and suspense is sure to await readers of this story, which the Military Writers Society of America has deemed, "One of the very best thriller novels...this year."
And it doesn't stop there. Mr. Tata has promised future entries into the Threat series starting with Hidden Threat, due out late next year, followed by Dark Threat.
Still looking for a reason to be impressed? Okay. Try this. Mr. Tata continues to donate 100% of the royalties from Sudden Threat to the USO Metro DC Hospital Services Fund for wounded warriors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital, nearing $30,000 in donations to date.
It may not take an American hero to write a good book, but we sure are proud when one of them does.
