Rescue Me by Christy Reece
In Christy Reece's debut romantic suspense novel, RESCUE ME, Eden St. Claire, a covert operative of Last Chance Rescue Enterprises, has made secrets her life's work. Seven years ago, an evening of emotional vulnerability and pure pleasure almost destroyed her. Now Eden wears her beauty like a mask, concealing any hint of vulnerability or demons of her past.A daring rescue of an innocent girl on a Greek island leads Eden to a new partner. Jordan Montgomery, new to LCR, has been looking for Eden--though he knows her by another name, from another time. But his search for her is overshadowed by a case that's gone international. A powerful, ruthless, organized network is stealing women and children around the world--as a lover, a traitor, and a killer all wait for Eden's next move.
And Reece hit the trifecta with her debut. "When I started RESCUE ME, I wanted to write a story that had been rambling around in my head for a few months. It was about a young woman who goes through a horrific event and then disappears without a trace. Years later, she's reinvented herself and is doing what no one was around to do for her...rescuing victims. It wasn't until I was in the middle of the story that I became intrigued with the organization she worked for called Last Chance Rescue. I was fascinated not only by the power and influence they had, but also the things they could accomplish. In the midst of writing RESCUE ME, Noah McCall, the founder of Last Chance Rescue, captured my attention. I loved this character and knew I had to write his story too. From there, the story ideas kept coming and the people who worked for the organization became even more mysterious and interesting. At the time I pitched it, I had no real plans to write a trilogy or a series. I was at a conference and had a pitch session scheduled with an agent I'd long admired. I'd just completed RESCUE ME and had a few pages of RETURN TO ME, Noah McCall's story. The agent requested the full manuscript of RESCUE ME. She read and liked it and offered representation. When she sold the trilogy to Ballantine, I only had about 20,000 words of RETURN TO ME finished. My agent was the one who saw the potential not only for the trilogy but also for an entire series."And Reece takes a slightly different tack with her trilogy. She centers the trilogy on an organization rather than one particular character. "The work that Last Chance Rescue performs fascinated me, but it's the people who make up the organization I found the most intriguing. Why do they work for LCR? What, in their past, makes them so committed to rescuing the innocent? I love character driven books, to read and to write. Having Last Chance Rescue as the backdrop only made these characters more interesting and fun to write. Each person has come to the organization for his or her own unique reasons. I love finding out why and then telling their stories."
