Joanne Hichens worked as an artist, lecturer, and group facilitator at a psychiatric hospital before completing a Master's degree in creative writing at the University of Cape Town. Joanne co-authored crime-thriller Out To Score, wrote a youth novel titled Stained, and has recently edited the South African crime-thriller collection Bad Company. She has written short stories for a number of anthologies, and articles for various newspapers and magazines. She is currently working on the sequel for Out To Score, as well as a crime novel titled Eye on Fire. She lives in Cape Town with her husband and three children.
