Vendetta by James A. Moore
In James A Moore's supernatural thriller, Vendetta, Robert Workham is happy, truly happy for the first time in as long as he can remember. He has a perfect life. A beautiful wife, three loving children, and an empire he's spent a lifetime building. The last time he came close to this level of joy was a lifetime ago, when he was a very different entity, a violent, hateful thing that killed without remorse or compassion. In his time he has slain kings, leaders of industry and some of the most power figures in the history of mankind. But that's all in the past.
Now there's just one little problem, his past is coming back for him. The family he killed was a lot like his, a loving wife and three devoted children, protected by a father who cared for them and treasured them as he had never treasured anything before.
There's only one thing he has to do before he can be free, one more murder to take care of before he can put the past behind him. Unfortunately, the man who wants to kill him has a long history of violence as well and as almost anyone who's ever crossed his path could tell Bob, Jonathan Crowley is relentless and unforgiving.
Although Moore prefers to write stand-alone novels, Jonathan Crowley, who made a previous appearance in Serenity Falls, the massive tale that was split into three separate, yet linked mass market books. As Moore says, "Crowley is a favorite of mine, but I probably wouldn't have used him again if there hadn't been a lot of requests from the first publisher and several fans for more of him. I guess people like anti-heroes and he definitely qualifies. I'm always curious as to what exactly he's going to do next. He's unpredictable. I mean, sure, I know what side of a fight he'll chose, but he surprises me with some of the decisions he makes."And novels aren't the only thing that keeps the prolific Moore busy. Although he is the author of some 18 novels, he has written many short stories and supplements for role-playing games. It's unclear when he has time to sleep.
"I try to work on only a handful of projects at a time. I have a laptop that I write on and a PC that I work with and normally I'll handle one project on each at any given time to let me have a little variety. But I learned the hard way how easy it is to spread yourself too thin. I tried a couple of years ago to write three novels at the same time and to this day I've only finished one of the three. There's only so much the brain will tolerate and as I'm normally reading three to four books at a time, I guess I was bound to learn my limits."
But just because he's busy, it doesn't mean he doesn't want to try his hand at graphic novels. "I've actually got a couple of proposals sitting in slush piles at Marvel Comics and I would dearly love to write for about half the characters that are out there, as well as to create a few new ones. I did start off in comics and from time to time I still do a small script. The latest is for a novella of mine called The Wild Hunt, and will probably only be available in the collector's edition of the book, but I would love to do more work in the comic book field. Any comic people out there reading this? Heh heh heh."
