Thriller Anthology 2 needs your story!
ITW authors! Thriller, Stories To Keep You Up All Night, was ITW's first anthology, appearing on bookshelves in 2006 when our organization was just getting started. Edited by James Patterson and featuring bestselling ITW members such as Lee Child, Douglas Preston, Heather Graham and James Rollins, along with stories by more than twenty other top thriller writers, Thriller sold more than 400,000 copies worldwide and became one of the most successful anthologies of all time."Thriller was an overwhelming success," says ITW co-president and bestselling author Steve Berry. "Along with the amazing sales numbers, we sold the foreign rights in 9 countries. We anticipate Thriller 2 to be an even bigger hit. After all, we've already got Clive Cussler at the helm and a stellar lineup of bestselling authors. All we need now is to fill five more slots. I encourage ITW members to submit their stories for consideration. Remember that all proceeds go to help fund our organization."
Thriller 2, edited by Clive Cussler, will be published by MIRA BOOKS in early 2009 and we're asking our members to submit stories. Thriller 2 already features an all-star lineup of some of today's bestselling thriller writers, including Ridley Pearson, Jeffrey Deaver, Lisa Jackson, Barry Eisler, Mariah Stewart, Phillip Margolin, Brad Meltzer, Robert Ferrigno, R.L. Stine, Kathleen Antrim, Javier Sierra, David Hewson, Jon Land, and Carla Neggers, so expect this collection to be a huge success, so we're looking for your very best stories to round out the collection.
Stories must be thrillers as opposed to traditional mysteries. Certainly a thrilling story can incorporate a mystery, but there must be some aspect of page-turning suspense - a race against time, building tension between two characters, a growing certainty something terrible might happen if someone doesn't intervene. Basically the same characteristics as a great novel that we call a thriller, the very lifeblood of ITW.
This anthology is a major fund raiser for International Thriller Writers, the proceeds of which enables us to operate our website, generally provide membership services throughout the year and ensure ITW will continue into the future. Consequently, as with Thriller, all stories will be donated by the authors, but naturally authors retain the copyright on their stories and obtain exposure from being in a bestselling anthology with today's top tier thriller writers.
Start writing!
Stories are due March 31, 2008. (That's only ten weeks away.) Only five stories will be chosen, so please send us your best. For the last Thriller anthology we received quite a few submissions and we expect even more this time.
Stories should be approximately 5000 words in length. This is not a hard ceiling on length, but use your judgment and try to stay in the neighborhood of 5000 words.
Stories should be emailed to anthology@thrillerwriters.org or mailed to:
ITW Anthology
110 Pacific Avenue Mall
Suite 105
San Francisco, CA 94111
Standard manuscript formatting should apply. Remember to have your name and contact information on the title page, and your name and the title of the story on remaining pages. Stories will not be returned, so make sure to retain a copy. Those writers whose stories are selected will be notified the beginning of June, 2008. This information will also be posted on the ITW website.
We know Thriller 2 is going to be an amazing collection, so thanks in advance for helping to make it a success. Good luck!
